6. Drive Module
Overview
The final major remaining piece of assembly is the extruder and stepper motor. If you are using a PCB mount, prefer to install the mount before proceeding (if possible).
Parts
Note
There are eight (8) screw holes to attach the Drive module, but not all will be used. The Drive attaches to the Front module with 8mm screws; use 12mm screws for the Top module.
Drive designs not from E34M1 are compatible but do not leave room for lock washers. They should be left out if you are using a third party or stock EVA 3 drive mount.
Part | Qty |
---|---|
Drive mount | 1 |
Assembled Sherpa Mini extruder and stepper | 1 |
PTFE tube, approx. 45.8mm | 1 |
M3 x 12mm SHCS | 2 |
M3 x 8mm SHCS | 6 |
M3 x 6mm BHCS | 1 |
Lock washers, M3 | 9 |
Steps
- Set the printed Drive module over the Front and Top. The hexagonal hole is for the PTFE tube; this can be used to orient the part.
- Use four (4) M3 x 8mm screws with lock washers to attach the Drive to the Front module.
- Use two (2) M3 x 12mm screws with lock washers to attach the Drive to the Top module.
- Insert the PTFE tube through the hexagonal cutout and into the Hotend module. It may be a tight fit; some users recommend rounding the cutout with a precision hobby knife.
- Place the assembled Sherpa Mini extruder in place. There is a rounded ledge to support the stepper.
- Secure the extruder to the top of the mount with two (2) M3 x 8mm screws with lock washers.
- Finally, secure the front of the extruder with a single M3 x 6mm BHCS. Alternatively, use a zip tie around the stepper motor.
